Evernote for Marketers

“I sometimes find, and I am sure you know the feeling, that I simply have too many thoughts and memories crammed into my mind” – Dumbledore, Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire.

I love this quote from Dumbledore as it perfectly describes the problem many of us encounter in our busy lives. Where Dumbledore uses the Pensieve to dump his thoughts, think of Evernote as the real world equivalent of this magical object – somewhere to store and collect your thoughts so you can make better sense of them.

As I've mentioned in the past, Evernote is one of my favourite apps – it’s a great productivity tool and it even helped me find my lost cat. As a marketer, I find myself using Evernote every day for numerous tasks. It’ a great tool for planning campaigns and staying organised. Here are my top uses for Evernote

1. Project Management

When ever a new project gets thrown my way, whether it’s creating a product catalogue or planning an expo, I turn to Evernote to plan it all out. I usually start by creating a to-do list of all the things I’ll need to do to complete the project. Evernote includes checkbox style bullets so you can mark your tasks as completed.

Along the way I then add useful images and links to my notes that I am likely to refer back to. Evernote allows you to keep everything in the one place and because you can access it from your phone, you’re never far away from the information you need.

2. Planning Campaigns

When it’s time to run an online campaign I use Evernote to write down the objectives, clip relevant images and record important URLs with my UTM tracking. I actually keep a favourited note of the UTM tracking I use on a regular basis for things like Twitter and Facebook posts. I am currently planning an Instagram Challenge and am using Evernote to plan how it’s going to be promoted, what the KPIs are and the challenges for each day.

3. Saving Useful Resources

Throughout the course of my day I often find useful articles that give me an idea or that I think might be useful to hang on to. I use the Evernote Web Clipper to very quickly save the article to Evernote. I use an “Articles” tag to group all my saved articles so I can browse them later. Evernote is also a great way of recording your meeting notes and saving business card info. Even if you like a good old fashioned pen and paper, you can snap a picture of your notes and save to Evernote in a flash. Evernote Premium allows you to save a business card and the information automatically gets added to your phone contacts. I can then use Skitch to annotate the notes within Evernote if I need to make any changes.

I’m always looking for cool new ways of how I can use Evernote. Have I missed something, let me know in the comments.
