WWDC-2014

The Best Thing That Came Out of WWDC 2014

Apple announced lots of really cool features at WWDC 2014. I'm super excited by the idea of receiving phone calls and SMS messages on my Mac and iPad. I really like the new OSX Yosemite design and continuity between devices is getting even better. It really shows that Apple is still an incredibly strong and innovative company. While these new features are cool, I'm more excited about the work Apple has being doing on “extensibility” i.e. opening up the iOS ecosystem to developers, giving them more power than ever to integrate their apps with the OS and link with other apps. One of the big pro-Android arguments has always been that the open platform allows developers to do more. Well with the new extensibility announcements, Apple really is closing the gap and iOS apps are about to reach a whole new level of awesome.

Think about it, apps like MyFitnessPal will now be able to let you know how many calories you've had in Notification Centre. Or FitBit will be able to show you how many steps you've taken in a single day. While browsing Safari, apps like Evernote and Pocket will be able to integrate with sharing options so you can quickly clip and save links for later.

I believe that it's the developers and their love for the iOS platform that has allowed the iPhone to become the most satisfactory smartphone to own in this day and age. This is why there are more developers programming for iOS than Android or any other operating system. With more tools and power at their fingertips than ever before, I can't wait to see how developers take the iPhone experience to soaring new heights.
