7-Day Productivity Plan - 1

7-Day Productivity Plan: Day One

Estimated reading time: 3 mins, 18 secs

QUICK-WIN: Learn to say “NO”. There are always going to be people, ideas and opportunities that require your attention. Saying “NO” to everything that's non-essential leaves you with more time and energy for what really matters. You'll be amazed at how much you can get done when you start saying “NO” and get rid of all this noise.

“My goal is no longer to get more done, but rather to have less to do.” – Francine Jay

Hi [urlparam param=”FirstName” default=”friend”/]!

My name is Paul and I'm really pleased you've decided to start my 7-Day Productivity Plan. Like you, I'm really interested in the idea of self-improvement, productivity and achieving more. I currently work a 9 to 5 job and am building my website and business “on the side”, hence why productivity is so important to me. Learn more about me.

This 7-day email course will take you through the basic steps for increasing your productivity. Make sure you take action and apply what you've learned to your own projects and routine (why not schedule a 30-minute block of time in your calendar each day for the next 7 days for reading these emails and applying the lessons).

Taking action is really important. Make a decision now to open, read and take action after each email you receive. In the past, I've had students send me pictures as evidence that they're taking the course seriously. If you want to be a star student, then send me a Tweet or photo on Instagram and get in touch (@paulminors, #7DPP). If you're not going to open the emails or take action, then feel free to unsubscribe (no lazy people on this course).

I'd like to let you know now that in a few weeks I'll be opening the cart for my Personal Productivity Toolkit. This is a downloadable online course that will help you to create a “system” that allows you to get more done with less stress. The 7-Day Productivity Plan (this email course) is the perfect taster of what's to come in the toolkit. So keep this in the back of your mind and I'll send you more details in a few weeks.

I'd love to learn more about you and your story, could you please leave me a comment and tell me:

  1. What do you struggle with when it comes to being productive?
  2. What does success mean to you?

Okay, let's get started!

What is productivity?

It's important to understand what's involved with increased productivity. Productivity is a combination of being effective (choosing WHAT to do) and efficient (HOW you do it). In order to be more effective and efficient, there are three key components you'll need to optimize; time, energy and attention:

Time + Energy + Attention = Effectiveness + Efficiency
(write this down and put it somewhere you'll see it regularly)

During this course, you'll learn how to optimize each of these areas so that you can be more effective and efficient.

Mistakes to avoid

When it comes to being productive, one of the biggest mistakes you can make is to be really active and do lots of “stuff”… lots of “work”, but not actually achieve what you want. If you focus on being “busy” instead of “productive”, you'll lose motivation as you get overwhelmed without achieving your goals.

Often people complain about having “too much to do” but “not enough time”. That's not going to be you. You're going to be so well organised that you get everything done and still have time for the other important things in your life.

Action step: Choose your project

There are two approaches you can take to this course. You can 1) apply what you're going to learn to an existing project or goal you're working on, or 2) you can use this as an opportunity to create a new goal or project to focus on going forward. Decide this now!

Examples could be: setting up a website or blog, starting a side-business, growing your existing business or achieving a great result on a project at work. This course will also improve your general productivity and organisational skills, but it's good to have a project or goal in mind as you read the emails.

Tomorrow we're going to dive into your chosen project a bit more and set some clear goals around it. This is going to help give you a clear direction around what you need to do so that you can focus on the tasks that matter most.

Good job today, talk tomorrow!
Paul
