Discovering Nusa Lembongan

Today Hayley and I took a boat from Bali to Nusa Lembongan where we’re spending the weekend. Lembongan is a tiny little island off the east coast of Bali and in the few hours we’ve been here, we’ve already explored about half the island.

It was pretty funny… when we arrived, we jumped off the boat and along with about 50 other tourists congregated around some lady who was supposed to help us with transport to our hotels and villas. Being an impatient kind of person, I made the decision that we’d make our own way to our accommodation and we quickly departed.

We walked about 20 meters down the street when we were asked a common question that you get a lot in Indonesia “Transport?!”. All I had to say was “Scooter? How much?” give the guy Rp150,000 (about NZD$15 or USD$10) and we were sorted. We jumped on our scooter and left everyone else to wait for their taxis and cars.

You can get a private driver pretty cheaply, but getting a scooter was much more preferable. We had the independence to explore the island in our own time and go where we wanted without being shadowed by a driver.

After some lunch (Indonesian fried noodles with chicken and beef satay) we discovered the beautiful Dream Beach. The sand was golden and smooth, the sea was clear blue and had a bit of a rip to it.

We spent the after noon navigating the tiny roads (like seriously tiny) to see what we could find. We tried to get across to another island just south of Lembongan (I forgot the name) but the bridge to get you there has literally split in the middle. You can still see a piece of the bridge in the sea where it fell away from the main structure (scratch that idea).

I’m currently writing this from a little wooden room in our villa. We’re looking forward to exploring more tomorrow. Hope you’re having a great weekend!
